The Poet’s Prayer
Give me the language of Shakespeare,
Give me the beauty of Keats,
Give me the style of John Milton,
The spiritual vigor of Yeats.
Give me the soul of Wordsworth,
Give me the vision of Blake,
Give me the heart of Walt Whitman,
The tongue with which Emerson spake.
Give me the music of Shelley,
Give me the wit of a Pope,
Give me the depth of a Browning,
Renown will not be my vain hope.
