The Whirling Dervish (from Murshid’s early writings, 1928)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate.
I testify there is no God but God,
Mohammed is the Messenger of the Lord,
And I confess my sins, be they forgiven,
May my conscience from every fault be shriven.
I testify there is no God but God,
Mohammed is the Messenger of the Lord,
My soul seeks Him in realms of Boundless White,
To be baptized in Infinite Love and Light.
There is no God but God,
Nought exists but the Lord,
As a lover, I seek You,
La Ellaha El Allahu.
My heart wants only One,
Its Savior and Sun,
Love encompasses the soul,
Love the Path, the hoped-for Goal.
No God but God,
You only are, Lord,
Lord, You only are,
Allahu Akbar.
Only You, only You,
El Allahu.
The Living, the True,
Ya Alhamdu.
Naught but You,
Allahu!
You! You! You!
Hu! Hu! Hu!
Hu ……!
